Here is a quick rundown of things that have given me joy, inspiration, feelings this past week. This comes a day late but hey, who’s keeping track anyway.
Bitsy Jam #65 - Found myself wanting to rush a piece to submit to the jam hosted by Adam Le Doux. Every month, a theme is provided to prompt creatives to craft a Bitsy piece. It’s very rough, but I was quite happy to get this little narrative together with a few hours left to the deadline. Hope to make more of these.
Shiori by The Shine & Shine & Shine & Shine - New album from Taiwanese Twee Pop group. Really put some pep into my step this past week, especially with the gauntlet of presentations due. Glad I discovered their 2009 album earlier this year / last year, was very surprised (and now grateful) to see Spotify updating me of Shiori’s release one morning.
Poetry Pathways and Possibilities with Jacinta Le Plastrier - Okay less about giving me joy, more about trying to understand the poetry publishing landscape here in Melbourne. While mildly illuminating, this talk just hammered home the fact that one should just keep submitting.
Tame Impala at Rod Laver Arena with Jax - Having seen them a couple of times, was not anticipating to enjoy as much as I did from world-renowned Kevin Parker and band. Witnessing Jax get starstruck, hearing deep cut Runway Houses City Clouds, downing 8-9 cans, tracks off of Lonerism taking me back to Laneway 2013, people watching to gauge the average age, McDonalds afterwards. Nothing to complain about here.
Ludwig Invitational for Smash Ultimate and Melee - Another weekend, another tournament. Only this time, it is the most stacked tournament that Ultimate has ever had (unsure about Melee). The stream was on Youtube. Similarly to a past weekly roundup, the amount of time I spent on this during the weekend warrants its spot here. This set was sick.
1998 Anime Fansites - Stumbled upon this tweet, accessed the archive of fansites, downloaded a GBA rom, bummed that it was in Japanese. Should explore this rabbit hole more when I have the chance, there’s bound to be sick stuff buried in here.
Suave Pendiente by Niños Del Cerro - 2022 Chilean release. Unsure of how to describe this. A cool breeze? Oddly Smith Westerns came to my mind halfway, but way more restrained. Actually, the album cover kind of captures what I’m trying to say.
slowroads.io by anslo.dev - One great result of following a bunch of itch io developers / writers has been peeping their liked tweets when they appear on the timeline. This driving simulator helped take the edge off a few days back, when I was feeling some frustration. Can’t recommend this enough, it plays in the browser! Its environments are great, muted palette, diegetic vehicle noises. Play some of your own music on low (or high) and take a few minutes drive to unwind.
Alright that’s it for me! Hope your week ahead looks good. I’ll be spending the next few minutes on slowroads.io.
